What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed scheme developed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). Its purpose is to help organisations protect themselves from the most common cyber threats and build stronger digital resilience across the UK.
The scheme sets out five key technical controls that, when properly implemented, can reduce the risk of cyber attacks by up to 80 percent. These controls focus on securing your devices, networks and data against the kinds of threats that target businesses every day.
There are two levels of certification:
Cyber Essentials – a self-assessment covering core technical defences
Cyber Essentials Plus – includes an independent technical audit
